#01 What makes the CS-2 suited for in-cabinet placement?
The CS-2 has been designed for placement inside furniture from the very beginning, sound-wise and construction-wise. It is designed to fit a typical cabinet shelf space, has a front-ported rather than rear-ported bass reflex to play best into the room and not back into the furniture, an elevated tweeter to minimize the effects from the furniture’s inside edges, the tweeter is angled inwards to achieve the typical toe-in from freestanding stereo speakers, and the overall sound tuning has been optimized for placement inside a sideboard or lowboard.
#02 Is the stereo width and stereo height still good enough?
The CS-2 has been designed for sideboards or lowboards which should still have an adequate width that matches the overall idea of the stereo triangle and the size of the room. The CS-2 tweeters are angled inwards to achieve the same typical toe-in known from conventional freestanding stereo speakers. A very short lowboard in a larger room might not provide the ideal stereo width, regardless of the CS-2.
The stereo height will be lower compared to on-wall speakers or tall freestanding speakers. However, when sitting rather than standing in front of the speakers, mounting the furniture higher, and choosing the most upper shelf, the perceived stereo height will still be good, and can be further improved by RoomPerfect™.
#03 Can the CS-2 play bass without a subwoofer?
Yes. The CS-2 has been designed as a full-range speaker, meaning it rolls off below 40Hz. Together with the furniture typically placed near the back wall it will provide a full, substantial sound. In very large rooms the CS-2 might be complemented by one or two Lyngdorf BW boundary woofers. This combination can easily be set in the Lyngdorf TDAI amplifier menu and then calibrated with RoomPerfect™.
#4 What's the difference between CS-1 and CS-2?
Both speakers share the same woofer and tweeter and have a similar sound performance. The main difference is the shape of the loudspeaker. The CS-1 is longer and lower to be placed horizontally, the CS-2 is shorter and higher to fit other furniture designs.
#5 What about a center speaker with CS-1 or CS-2?
The CS-1 and CS-2 with their angled-in tweeters create a very good so-called phantom center, meaning a defined sound image between the two speakers. A common TV furniture or lowboard will typically allow a stereo width somewhere around 3 meters / 120 inches, which is perfectly fine without a dedicated center channel and third speaker. Furthermore, the CS-1 and CS-2 perform best with the Lyngdorf TDAI 2-channel stereo amplifiers, where the RoomPerfect™ calibration will further improve the sound staging and imaging in front of the listener.
