Our history

1999

The world’s first digital audio amplifier

Audio innovator Peter Lyngdorf funds the development of the Equibit™ technology, which can transform the PCM audio data on a CD to the PWM signal of a Class D power amplifier and drive the loudspeakers directly. The result is a milestone in high-end audio: the legendary Millennium amplifier. This innovative amplification technology lays the foundation for Peter Lyngdorf’s next chapter.

Rethink everything

Peter Lyngdorf, on a mission to create absolute perfection in sound reproduction, founds a revolutionary R&D and production company in Denmark, the first under his own name: Lyngdorf Audio. The groundbraking Millennium is complemented by a complete model line-up: The next generation of fully digital integrated amplifiers, power amplifiers, and the company’s first CD player. A new company in the world of high-end audio is born.

2006

The first real room correction system

An innovative room correction system is developed from the ground up: RoomPerfect™ – one of the largest patents in the audio business. Different to all other room corrections it acoustically maps the room in 3D, uses a proprietary calibration signal, has an adaptive target curve, retains the loudspeaker’s inherent sound performance, acknowledges the psychoacoustic perception of sound instead of the common linearization, and even makes the whole process user-friendly for everyone. With a new line-up of amplifiers, loudspeakers and RoomPerfect, the stage was set for a groundbreaking collaboration that would change the course of audio history.

A promise of perfection

Lyngdorf’s work soon caught the attention of an icon in the world of music: Steinway Lyngdorf is a history-making collaboration between Lyngdorf Audio and Steinway & Sons, the world’s finest piano manufacturer. Both company founders share a similar vision: In 1853, Henry E. Steinway founded his company “to build the best piano possible”, inspiring music lovers worldwide. This philosophy is reflected in Peter Lyngdorf’s long-standing dream of creating the absolutely perfect sound system for music and movies.

The origin of this collaboration involved an ambitious promise – that a Steinway Lyngdorf system would reproduce the original sound of a Steinway & Sons grand piano as faithfully as possible, and be able to reproduce any kind of music on the Steinway & Sons level of quality. The engineering result launched in 2007 represents the pinnacle of audio, design, and craftship: The Model D loudspeaker system.

2009
